Stay frosty.
Alien and Aliens are probably better than the Terminator series. I don't even consider there to be an Alien movie after Aliens though, the rest were just plain awful.
I liked 3, definitely a weak link compared to what came before, but still a pretty good movie

I would have loved to see what Alien^3 was supposed to be like. With them coming to Earth and all.

Seriously. The teaser trailer practically tells you, "Aliens. Earth. Fuck Yeah." and then what do they do? They kill off all the characters we cared about in Aliens off screen. Fucking definition of weaksauce.
vYS_XmPOYuc
Yeah that was disappointing, still not a bad movie. Much better than the next one.

IIRC, Hicks was supposed to come back, but there was a contract disagreement with Michael Biehn, so they decided to kill him off. I don't remember why they killed off Newt as well. But I remember skimming through the original story of Alien^3 and it being awesome.
I think you are right about Hicks.

Michael Biehn dies in everything, for some reason.
Both James Cameron and David Fincher hate Alien 3, too.
"Hated it. Simple as that. I hated what they did.... I couldn't stand Alien 3 - how they could just go in there and kill off all these great characters we introduced in Aliens, and the correlation between mother and daughter. It stunk, but hopefully I'll get a chance to rectify all that"
To be fair, I only watched the first 10 minutes of Alien 3. The first time I watched the Alien movies they were playing them in sequintal order on tv, and it was like you're coming off a high note with the badass ending of Aliens, and then the first thing you hear in Alien 3 is how everybody died in hyperspace or some shit, so I was like, "they killed them off? Well, fuck this, then."

I thought they were mildly entertaining, but I was drunk when I watched them both, so maybe that's why. Can't consider them a part of either franchise though, or they'd certainly ruin them both.

That said, I love the DVD box, but what brain fart caused them to come up with the term "quadrilogy"? It's TETRALOGY, you cretins.

Tetra-Pak. They're called thus because they are square, and squares have four sides. Or something.

I remember watching Aliens about a month ago, and there was a part in the middle I had never seen before. It was after the masacre under the coolant tower and the crash of the drop shit because the pilot got pwnt. They were all inside the main bldg, and the aliens were tyring to get in, but they were getting mowed down by some turrets that were outside. Eventually the turrets ran out of ammo, and then came the scene where Bishop tells them all that in four hours the place basically won't exist anymore, and then the aliens come in through the roof and chew some face.
Has anyone else seen that extra scene? I'm just curious if I just hallucinated or not.

It also shows the people of the LV-426 colony before hell breaks loose, and Newt's family finding the alien ship, among other things.

that scene is often included in tv broadcasts, I actually prefer it left out... but if you want my advice, go find the special edition/director's cut/whatever, it's about 30 minutes longer and kicks shitloads of ass

It also goes a bit deeper into Ripley's relationship with her daughter, I think, which in turn intensifies the depiction of her attachment to Newt.
EDIT: Dammit Face.
Cameron said that back then, nobody would have watched a >200-minute sci-fi flick.

It must have been late in the game, because the William Gibson script for Alien^3 has Hicks and Bishop as the leads, I don't think Ripley ever comes out of deep freeze, I'm guessing because, at the time, Weaver opted out. The wood planet script that gets modified into Alien^3, I think has Hicks, Bishop, Newt meeting the same fates they do in the final movie.

from memory, so some shit may be missing:
-a scene with Ripley and Burke just before the meeting with the company, Burke tells her about her daughter
-several snippets of dialogue in the meeting itself, including a verdict being passed
-an entire series of sequences on the colony, before the infestation, clocks in at around 15-20 minutes
-an added sequence describing and arming the robot sentry guns
-a brief additional bit of dialogue concerning a theoretical queen alien shortly before the aliens attack
there's more but I can't recall specifically
also there's supposedly a scene floating around concerning Ripley finding Burke cocooned, she hands him a grenade... as far as I know its never been released publicly, though I'd love to see it

I know everyone says that the AvP movies sucked, but honestly I dont know how they could have made them into great movies. Other than filling some plot holes, the movie Concept was all about action.
If they tried to go the Aliens route and focus on the storytelling, they would have to cut out some of the horror/action elements to fit it all. I mean, how long was the Aliens movie anyway? I remember it being quite long.

Don't think they ever actually filmed it, am not sure but seem to remember reading something about it being cut at the script stage, although it was in the comic book version that a friend of mine had in school.
