Extraterrestrial activity on planet Earth: Fact or Myth?

I place this here instead of the news section (be free to move it), because i don't have fresh news about this, second because this is a this point, in my view, also a philosophical question than a purely empirical one.

There are two main groups of people, those who believe in extraterrestrial life forms and civilizations, and those who don't. The believers group brakes in two other groups, those who believe extraterrestrials have come and still do, to planet Earth, and those who don't, who say the vastness of space is just so big we are isolated by distance, and that the light speed is just a barrier to us as it is to any other civilization. Those who don't believe some alien civilizations can come here have also to admitt they believe that no matter how old a civilization is, practical interstelar travel will never happen, and inteligent species will be straded on their solar systems and live as long as their stars allow it (if their lucky no to end themselves). That light speed barrier will not be possible to overcome or circunvent no matter how much time passes, no matter how many millions of years a technological civilization has to progress, and that is also our future, stranded here, FOREVER.

For those who admitt the possibility that there could be life scattered throughout the universe, it should not be far fetched to admitt that intelligent species and civilizations who appeared long before our own, while in our planet dinossaurs were still kings (there were already billions of stars and solar systems by then, you know?), could have had allot of time to mature and figure it out how to conquer spacial vastness.

Over History there are always been sittings of UFOs and reported encounters with alien entities, it has not been a phenomena started by Hollywood induced mythology. These go all the way to pre-history.

In the XX century however, the sightings have been increasing, either because the population increased, therefore there are more people looking up at the sky, or the UFO activity increased on its own. One distinctive mark is the entering in the atomic era, wich with thousands of nuclear explosions in tests, each one launching massive electromagnetic pulse waves, anounces out loud our coming of age as a tecnological society. Many sightings started in the forties after the first batch of nuclear tests by the USA, and it was there the phenomena striked harder, with the Rosewell alleged incident, and many reported encounters ever since.

The Dr. Jonathan Reed episode. (1996)

In October 1996, while hiking in the wood of washington State with his dog Suzy, Dr. Reed came into contact with a strange entity. Skeptics say it was just from dust particles to camera artifacts. Fine by me, but both explanations fail in some aspects, namely:
1- Dematerialization and materialization of UFOs in the picture.
2- Coming from everywhere. If the shuttle is filming just 100 miles above earth, then why do the UFOs come from, and go to, every direction! Debris should not come from earth itself!

In my mind the bottom line is that anytime we have evidence of something we do not understand, we come up with theories and blame Martians (or Canadian/French/Jewish folk... Or God). There's little to prove the existence of extraterrestrial beings, and just as little to disprove it (that is, that we have available to us). All we have are unexplained snippets of history that will forever go down as potential evidence of that which we cannot truly prove at this point in time. It's more of a belief thing, hence why in X-Files it was a very common trend to have them searching for reasons to believe rather than know/prove.

However, if you want our beliefs, I'd have to state that extraterrestrials have to exist in some sense, but I'd have to state that our understanding of them or their potential influence on our world are significantly underdeveloped to the extent that I would have to state that discussing whether it's fact or myth is more facetious rather than logical.

Although if there were aliens here, I'd say the only proof you need is bottled water, the election/re-election of George Bush, and reality TV. Someone has to be fucking with us.

People dont realise how Archaeology in it's own little academic bubble is big business in many ways. Hundreds of books are written each year or re-edited and updated which basically re-hash all the same theories and assumptions using the cases over and over again to justify classic conclusions.

If I came along one day having (lets say for shits and giggles) discovered a buried hoard of extraterrestrial technology under the Sphynx those at the top of the Archaeological tree would have to completely change their assumptions. In one fell swoop I will have rendered 80% of their historys irrelevant. Those familiar with military history might want to compare it to the launching of HMS Dreadnought. It uttler rendered all over ships that came before it obsolete and caused a massive new arms rush. And even though it confirmed the Royal Navys dominance it also allowed other nations to start building from scratch and try and catch up.

It's exactly this kind of upheaveal that the Archaeological establishment want to avoid. It wasnt so long ago that the story of the Trojan war told in 'The Illiad' was considered completely fictional. Then an enterprising Kraut called Heinrich Schliemann decided he would try and find the 'mythical' city of Troy and prove Homer had based 'The Illiad' on a true story. He was hated and mocked for such outrageousness, but ya know what? He found it. He also went on to find evidence of the Myceanean civilisation again assumed to be myth.

People dont realise how Archaeology in it's own little academic bubble is big business in many ways. Hundreds of books are written each year or re-edited and updated which basically re-hash all the same theories and assumptions using the cases over and over again to justify classic conclusions.

If I came along one day having (lets say for shits and giggles) discovered a buried hoard of extraterrestrial technology under the Sphynx those at the top of the Archaeological tree would have to completely change their assumptions.

This can only be a belief as no real concrete evidence seems to hold much water, but I believe they exist. I think they are responsible for Humans and the evolution of man is drictly related to their intermingling. UFO enthusiasts at a conference in the UK have described newly released footage as the most convincing evidence of aliens ever filmed.

The video, captured by a security guard in Turkey, appears to show various alien craft in the sky above Istanbul at different times throughout this year.
At one point two apparently alien beings can be seen in what seems to be the cockpit of a UFO.

If aliens seeded life and technology on this planet, their tech, and ours would be fairly similar, and their body shape would be similar. Do you know how many inteligent people, with college degrees and PHDs, are dedicating their lives studying roaches, worms and single cell lifeforms? Some of the smarter people in the human race are interested in "inferior" lifeforms, it is the dumber people who usually dispise them. Did you ever saw those biology doctors in wildlife shows with their eyes glowing and their voices trembling as they speak of some kind of insect or amphibious species and how fascinating and precious they are?
