Im thinking another Rafa Roger final. Ive been critical of Roger all this year but I think he is getting back to something like his best.
Fed lost in the final of the French and Wimbledon, he'll be extra determined not to let Nadal take his US Open crown.
The brits are sucking Murrays dick again, as if he will ever win a grand slam. Tim Henman was a peoples champion, he was never close to winning a slam but he was a great guy and I got behind him every time. Murray is just a cock.

And dont worry, Djokovic has cancer, two broken ankles, pneumonia, and encephalitis. Federer will beat him no doubt.
But seriously, why is Djokovic playing the "I'm scared I'm gonna lose so I'll make up/exaggerate injuries" card? He's world no. 3, he ought to have faith in his abilities.

Jesus Christ, Federer just handed out the most unbelievable caning to Juan Martin del Potro. I mean seriously, I know Federer is arguably the greatest all rounder ever but JMDP should just go ahead and retire.
There was that thread in the news section about the coach being fired because his team won 100-0 in bball, Fed should be fined for making an example out of JMDP lol.
Who has everyone got to win the Aus. Open? I really want Fed to beat Nadal in a Fed/Nad final.

Fed is fucking up big time, his forehand has deserted him, it doesn't matter anyway cos Nadal likes to hit it to Federer's back hand, which is reliable but unspectacular and has no power behind it. He wont be getting any winners of it. Wtf is up with his first serve as well?! Pathetic Federer, his first serve percentage was 30 something% for most of the match. Finished with a FS% of 52%, who would have thought? I hate Rafa Nadal, I hope he breaks a leg (literally). He's not gonna lose at the French (ever), no one can touch him at Wimbledon, and he has now attained mastery over hard courts so I wouldn't bet against him to win the US Open. Is this the year for a Nadal grand slam?

It will be interesting to see who Federer will meet in the semis after Djokovic got knocked out by Phillip "Kohli" Kohlschreiber.
I'm amazed how good Andy Roddick is playin on clay now. But will he get to the semis?
I'm hopin' that Murray will make it to the semis and play against Nadal like he did in the US Open semis 08. Maybe he will get some chances.
But ultimately it is Nadal against Federer in the finals. I'm hoping Federer will make it this time.

Even if he does win, it will be a hollow victory, because he didnt defeat Nadal en route , but I doubt he cares.

It's far from being done, trust me. And as much as I would love to see Roger win it, there are still a serious bunch of guys who can do it. Besides, Federer won't be the only one galvanised by Raf's loss, they all will. Everybody now, will think that it's the year or never, and Del Potro, Verdasco, Monfils, Murray, Tsonga or even Robredo will go like madmen for it.
And I did put Murray on that list only because he is on the right side of the bracket, otherwise, he doesn't stand a chance in Paris. Not yet.

It was inevitable he would win. Haas looked tired come the last set, and Fed hit his stride. Of the 4th round matches left to be played, Monfils-Roddick looks the most interesting to me. A Rod is really in form, but so is Monfils, and he's french so he'll have the crowd behind him, tough to call, though Ill go with Monfils in 4.

The Paris crowd are dicks.

jesus christ federer is actually gonna give me a heart attack, every time he looks like he hasnt got a hope he digs deep and comes back. Del Potro played his ass off today, no one can say he gifted it to federer, but damn, when history beckons, there is no stopping that man. Or is there? Rafa was going to make history by winning 5 frenchs in a row, but he was stopped, by the most unlikely of people Soderling. Now Roger plans to make history by winning 14 majors including all 4 individual majors, which has never been done before, wouldn't it be a cruel but typical twist of fate if this unknown (outside tennis circles anyway) unheralded lowly Swede pisses in the face of history again?
Fuh Q
06-05-2009, 01:44 PM
and also, just because its probably not deep enough to have its own thread, if Roger wins the French, is he the greatest of all time? Is he the greatest of all time already? Yes Sampras may have 1 more major, but I dont remember Sampras getting to the final of the french even once (correct me if im wrong), let alone 3 times consecutively, does he already have a case? If the answer to both is no, what would it take for you personally to consider him as the greatest?

Lol ok, in around 40 years of open era tennis, only 6 people have completed the grand slam. And this isnt 6 out of 7 people, its 6 out of the thousands of players who have played at the majors over the years. Your argument is like saying a man with a hundred pounds has much money because a hundred is bigger than 0, but in real terms, when you take everything into consideration, it isnt much at all.
However, I respect your opinion.
CrazyCarl
06-05-2009, 02:31 PM
how many total Grand Slam winners have their been? 40 years means 160 possible winners (so we're already down to 160 from 1000's), minus repeat winners and winners of different slams and the set grows smaller.

Federer already is on the top 4/5 best player of all time, hell maybe more like joint first, but if he finally win the French (even though Rafa won't be there to stop him), he will be the best ever so far. He'll equal Sampras at 14 grand slam, but by winning them all, he will do him one over ( and even if he lose, he can at least claim 4 French final in a row, or 20 grand slam semi in a row, I will repeat that and bold it, because for fuck sake that's 20 GRAND SLAM SEMI FINALS IN A ROW!!!!!), so yeah, Roger is the best so far, but Nadal is still very, very young and has everything it takes to become the bestest.

Haha told you Fed would win, it was a great game, but after the second set tiebreak the match was over for me. Won't go down as a classic final, and the cynics will put an asterisk next to his name because he didnt beat Nadal, but I doubt Fed will care and it doesnt really matter. Well done Roger! He could retire now and still be considered by some as a great. I have a feeling Nadal will break his record though :s, 6 slams at 22, he's gonna win more slams than he loses thats for sure.
Well a few year ago I thought Federer was gonna thrash Sampras record easily. Its not beaten yet, and not been easy.
There is always another hungry young kid around the corner.
I think Nadal will win all 4, but I have my doubts he is going to get 14 or more. And Rafa is 23. He had one really good mid 2008 to just about a month ago, can he keep it up though?
Fuh Q
06-07-2009, 11:12 AM
Lets be honest, no disrespect to Soderling but his win against Rafa was an anomally. Assuming Rafa has 8 years left in him (31), Id expect him to win the French at least 4 more times, and thats being conservative, he is by all accounts the greatest clay courter of all time. His game on hard courts is pretty damn good, he's the best player in the world and once Fed retires, who is going to fulfill the mantle of his nemesis? of the 16 hard court slams that leaves him, Id expect him to win around 5 (an average of less than 1 hardcourt slam a year is not unrealistic I think). Not to mention his pedigree at Wimbledon means he'll probably win there at least once more in his career. Taking these conservative estimates, thats another 10 slams, comfortably beating the record. This relies on him being healthy though, he needs to make sure his knees dont ruin his career.
Oiolosse
06-07-2009, 11:19 AM
Nadal canceled Queens because of his knees and there is a rumor going around that he may cancel Wimbledon, too.
I hope he is playin Wimbledon and ends up playin Roger in the final again. They are still the best players and in the circuit and I love their encounters.
But I think (and hope) that Roger will be tough to beat now.
After finally winning the french open (yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaah ! ;)), Roger got surely a boost of self confidence.
He's needed an op on his kneee for like 18 months, and keeps putting it off, obviously its something that is worrying him

The problem with rafa is that his game is based enterily on the physical side, without it he is not as talented as Federer, when he's on top form though he is simply unbeatable, but can he sustain that physical level for years, I have doubts about it. One thing he will always have though is that freakish mental of his, and on that alone, I won't put Federer as the greatest ever. He is the greatest so far, but until Rafa retires, he will be a major contender.
That being said, Federer is also far from being done, and now that he got his milestone after some months of doubt, I'm pretty sure that he will go on stronger as ever. I'm ready to put some money on him finishing this year with 3 grand slam under his belt, and I see him winning the US open some more times, plus a couple of Wimbledon and probably 1 or 2 Australian. Achieving a career 20 grand slam is way in his range.

I'm willing to say Federer is better than Sampras and perhaps the best of all time. Roger has a far more complete game and would have easily bested Pete's mark by now if not for running into maybe the greatest clay courter ever. Even with a rival like Nadal for the second half of his run he has still matched Sampras and should win a couple more before retiring. Sampras never had a rival of Nadal's level. I love me some Andre, but he essentially wasted the early part of his career before doing the exact opposite to close it out. Michael Chang? No. Jim Courier? No. Yevgeny? No.
At his peak, he was simply amazing to watch on the court. So easy.

Except for the fact that he has never been able to play on clay or that it took him 12 years to win 14 slams. Federer only needed 6. And Sampras never had a Nadal in front of him. Sampras only made 1 semi in Paris, Federer reached the final 4 straight years. 19 slams finals out of 24 possibles, 20 straight appearances in semi-finals!!!! These stats are simply crazy.

Exactly. Other than the fact that Federer hasn't been able to beat Nadal at Roland Garros, he has been absolutely dominate across all surfaces in a way that Sampras never was.
What makes you say Sampras was better? I think Roger will end up with more slams, have done it against tougher competition, and have a greater depth beyond that (consecutive finals, semis in slams).

I hope so ;)
But it's a long way to go. I can't wait to see it.
Here is the draw: http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/scores/draws/ms/index.html
Upper half with Del Potro, Murray, Roddick, Gonzalez, Hewitt and Wawrinka.
The second half with Roger, Djokovic, Cilic, Blake, Verdasco, Tsonga and Soderling.
We are looking on a Del Potro vs. Hewitt in the second round.
If I'm reading the draw well, we have a possible quarter final Del Potro vs. Roddick and Murray vs. Gonzalez.
Del Potro vs. Murray in the semis?
Possible quarter final in the second half is Djokovic vs Cilic or Blake and Roger or Soderling vs. Verdasco or Tsonga.
None of those guys are going to beat Roger over 5 sets.

NO. Actually he played his worst RG of the last 5 years. What makes it interesting is that he won it anyway. He has new weapons in his game (like the chip) that hurted people in RG and that will hurt people in Wimbledon as well. He also has a better mental now. He was so used to win every single games for so long that when Nadal, Djoco and Murray started to win against him, he didn't know how to cope about it for a while, but I think that that have changed and he is now much more confident, not forgetting that by finally winning RG and equallinq Sampras record, he has a huge burden taken out of his shoulder. He now plays for himself again, with pleasure and he never is better than when it's like that.
Oiolosse
06-21-2009, 04:38 AM
Worst? He didn't play so good last year though he got to the final easier. Maybe his best performance in paris was 2007. But he definitely changed his game on clay court which served him well this year. That's why I think his overall clay court performance was the best.
And I agree with you. He will bring this new style to Wimbledon, too.
The only guy that can beat him over 5 sets is not in it.
When was the last time he lost to someone over 5 sets other then nadal? Aus 2008?

Roger will not win Wimbledon. His tennis at the French really wasn't that great, in fact it was probably his worst showing at that tourny, even though he won it. The only thing that sets him apart is his desire to win, his tennis is no longer leaps and bounds better than anyone elses as it was a few years ago. He wont be able to keep this up for much longer. Maybe he'll stumble towards the semis and then fall.

And to Evil, Chokovich no, Murray, Roddick and JMDP, yes. Murray is pretty good on grass, Roddick only went out of Queens on a freak injury, he was looking pretty good. A lot of the top 10 dont really shine at Wimbledon, people like Verdasco, or Gonzalez, but there are a few dark horses outside the top 10 who could really challenge for the crown. I read an article where the legends gave their predos for wimbledon and most of them picked Roger citing his history and "lack of pressure" after winning RG. Can someone please give me some concrete reasons why Roger's tennis will win him Wimbledon instead of this intangible crap like like his spirit?

JMDP is two sets down (0-2) against Lleyton Hewitt
Del Potro has problems with his 1st serve. Hewitts 1st serve percentage is only a little better but when the 1st serve is in he makes the point with almost a 100% certainty.
JMDP has a bandage under his right knee. But it doesn't look he's badly injured. Hewitt is fighting really hard and plays well.
Del Potro just losed his first service game in set 3 with a double fault.
On second thought maybe something is wrong with JMDP.
edit:
Hewitt did it. Final score 6:3 7:5 7:5 for Hewitt. I think Hewitt has a chance now to reach the quarter finals. There he may meet Roddick.

She is doing people who argue she is the rightful world no. 1 no favours at all, how can she be the true world no. 1 when the Williams sisters are simply better than her? Finally, the Murray cock-sucking is over for another year. I mean seriously, he's a good player, but he's not a great player, or Jesus Christ. Every year when Wimbledon starts, its like its open season on Murray's dick in England. I'm glad he lost, I much prefer Roddick.
Given how far Haas pushed Roger at the French, and his performance against Djo, I thought he would actually have a shot at winning today, but he never really got into the match. Roger was too good on serve.
I never thought Roger would even get this far, but I have to admit, my money has to be on him to win now.

I dunno, in the last set, it was all Fed, dont remember how many times Fed took him to deuce on his serve but it was a fair few, whereas Roddick couldn't get anywhere near breaking Fed's serve. He just got tired. It was an amazing contest and I feel really for Roddick because it obviously could have gone either way.
And as for the second set, I'm gonna disagree with everyone else and say even if Fed lost it, I think it still would have gone to 5 sets and Fed still maybe would have won.
edit:
Im also gonna disagree with the legends on the bbc, the only reason he has won these two majors is because Nadal wasn't around. Fed wasn't playing that amazingly today, and Nadal wouldn't have tired in the 5th like Roddick. And even though he lost this year, Nadal is still the king of RG when fit. Once Nadal comes back, he is gonna clean up, I don't believe Roger will get to 18, I dont think he'll even get 17.

I can't understand why so many people are so harsh with Roddick. The guy has been a top ten player EVERY year for the last 10 years, only one other player has done so well, guess who? Yeah, HIM. It's not Roddick's fault if he is almost exactly the same age than the greatest player of all time and so is pretty much fucked from the start like every other players (minus Nadal).
I know that it's idiotic to give this kind of argument, but take Federer out of the equation and Roddick will probably have 6/7 slams by now. And unlike many other players, Roddick never gave up and has continually tried to improve. Hell, just for this year, he's probably the MIP of the tour.

07-05-2009, 04:16 PM
Where would we be with no tiebreakers? 80 all in the 2nd set, with play suspended because of darkness!?! Both players' serves were crazy good. Roddick would have needed to play perfectly today to win. He wasted that lead in the tiebreaker and then misplayed a couple shots in the last few games of the 5th set.
But the French and Wimbledon have been the best Roddick's ever looked. I hope he can bring that serve to the US. And Fuld's right. Roddick would have maybe 3 Wimbledon's if he didn't have to play Roger every time. And who knows how many other majors. Roger is just slightly better at the things Roddick does well. Maybe if he could return serve a little better he'd have a better chance at winning more.

Roddick wouldn't have 6 or 7 slams. He had a good run in summer 04 (I believe), but dropped off somewhat after that. His play this summer is far better than it's been in the past and he's becoming much more of a rounded player. Amazing match.
