Dark Side, Who's Next, Abbey Road, and Paranoid (if that counts as classic rock).

The album is 24 years old. I'd argue Nevermind is just about 'Classic Rock'.

1960-1979 is what I think of as the "classic rock" period, with the note that bands that existed through that era and onward get grandfathered in, i.e. Queen's Innuendo counts as classic rock even though it was released in 1991.
P.S. Calling Nevermind classic rock is fucking retarded. We don't call it "classic rock" because it's old, we call it that because it came during a certain period. Classical music refers to music made during the classical period, for example.
The album is 24 years old. I'd argue Nevermind is just about 'Classic Rock'.
And you'd have a brick thrown at your head. Nirvana's not classic rock, never were classic rock and never will be. Don't even get me started on how overrated that album is.
Does AC/DC's Back in Black count?
Does AC/DC's Back in Black count?
You bet your ass it does!

I'm not bothering with band names. They are classic, after all. And I'm excluding the Beatles. Too big to fit in with the rest. Also excluded Dylan. And how's about Guns 'n Roses? Are they classic rock? Seems to me they fit the genre pretty well.
1. Dark Side of the Moon
2. The Wall
3. The Doors
4. Harvest
5. Houses of the Holy
6. Are You Experienced?
7. IV
8. Strange Days
9. Who's Next
10. Wish You Were Here

Tapestry-Carole King
A timeless classic
GN'R, Metallica, etc. not classic rock. The cut off is like when Ozzy went solo and only cuz he was in Sabbath. So I guess the real cutoff would be . Bands like AC/DC The Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin, Aerosmith (on drugs), Clapton (old shit), Springsteen, KISS, Seger, etc. that's classic rock. Primarily late 50's to very early 80's.

Fucking Sgt. Pepper's stole Pet Sounds' thunder
TheImpossibleMan

i don't think it counts as stealing, the thunder went willingly
You know what I mean. Pet Sounds was supposed to be this epic album, and the Beatles were like fuck that and dropped Sgt. Peppers right before.
Both amazingly insanely great albums
PWalk

Sgt. Peppers is that one album where everytime I put it on I listen beginning to end every time. Pet Sounds is great too but if I'm going to have to pick then Peppers gets it.
Oh and fuck the Bee Gees and Frampton for trying to capitalize on it by that god awful movie.
Fuck the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton in general

There's nothing wrong with GH collections, especially when they cause a listener to go back and explore the actual albums. In that case, the GH collection is doing it's job.

Very good point, and that's why the greatest classic rock album of all time is a tie between AC/DC's Back in Black and Creedence Clearwater Revival's GH.

The Doors - Waiting for the sun is probably my current favorite, but love goes to:
Beatles - Revolver
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Zep - Physical Grafitti
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare
AC/DC - Dirt Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (I prefer the Bon Scott era)

if you can only pick one - then surely it has to be Dark Side.
But there are different elements to different albums and everyone has different memories associated with discovering them.
So for me:
Night at the Opera/ Sheer Heart Attack
Led Zep - 4cd best of collection :)
Wish You were here
and if you go out a bit further then
Neil Young- After the Goldrush
Bowie - SPiders & Hunky Dory
TheImpossibleMan

Queen's kind of an odd group in that I don't think any of their albums are all time-greats; even Night at the Opera or News of the World have tracks that lack that magical quality that changes an album from brilliant or great to "transcendently excellent". However, their first six albums are all ridicuously good, and some later albums like The Game or Innuendo are outstanding too.
I came to first love music right at the end of the classic rock era. "Back in Black" and "Freeze Frame" along with "Toto IV" stayed on my turntable. As I got older I pretty much listened to classic rock all the time. Come to love about anything Zepplin and Pink Floyd. Although I think the abililty to appreciate an entire album diminishes with time because alot of these albums were preaching to the state of the world and the people in it at that time.

Debatable. The Classical Period is essentially set in stone. There's really next to no discussion on the "when." "Classic Rock" however originated as a programming format, and as such is a tad more ambiguous.

Anyone that considers Nevermind...an album that was released in 1991...a classic rock album is either 14 or mentally handicapped. Skynyrd, Queen, Zeppelin and Aerosmith are classic rock, Nirvana is grunge.
