I am with you there. Obama scares the hell out of me. He wants to drop the threshold for maximum federal income tax to a number that would include me. Essentially, he would put me in the same bracket as Bill Gates.
As it stands already, 50 cents on every dollar I earn goes to taxes, when you total up federal, state, town and sales taxes. On paper, our household income (me plus wife) looks like a lot, but it doesn't go very far where we live. I fear that he would cost me my house.
"Yes we can" make the Theehors move out of Connecticut.

Boo fucking hoo. You people complain too fucking much. We have 50% income tax on everybody that makes over $150k a year (it's even worse in Italy, an ex's dad had to pay around 60%), 19% VAT on all goods and services, and with gas at around $9 a gallon here, almost 80% of that goes to the exchequer, as well. Plus church tax, inheritance tax, sparkling wine tax (seriously)...
You people have got it fucking made when it comes to taxes. You're not gonna die if someone takes an extra few hundred a year.

Ah, the difference between Europe (and Canada) and the U.S. Allowing everyone 5 weeks vacation, mega benefits, and universal health care has a huge cost. Here, in the good ol' U.S. of A, we pay less tax, but 1/6 of our citizens (and assorted illegal (oops, I'm sorry, undocumented) aliens) have no health insurance or are underinsured.
In my case, since my Mrs. works in Canada but lives in the States, she gets to pay the 52% income tax to cover all those benefits, yet, because she does not reside there, qualifies for none of them.

Yikes. Stuck a nerve, there.
However, I don't know that we'd buy the "Europe has high taxes, therefore you should vote for the guy who is going to raise yours" argument. From what I have read, you have spent time in both places and know that.
I don't mind paying my fair share and I don't mind helping my fellow man. I've been fortunate and I recognize that. Truth be told, what really gives me a giant case of the ass is that government takes 50 cents on every dollar and wastes 25. I would not complain if the money I contributed continued to work half as hard as I did to earn it.
This is the libertarian in me speaking, but I want elected officials who fucking apologize for every cent they take from us and did nothing to earn-- who really push government to be half as efficient as the private sector. I am offended by the entitlement that government feels to our money.
Sorry to push the thread off-topic.

Other stuff I need :
- A promotion. How many times do I need to break sales records? Who cares how long I've been there?
- Less government assholes taking cash for student loan repayments.
- To stop blowing all my paychecks at the bars around town. Proprietors love me.
- More education. Probably.

Hey, I get to spend less than that per week, and make over 30,000 a month. It's still hard sometimes to get used to having that amount of money though..when I was in college, was raising my little kids and working between the job and the grants, barely made $15,000 a year. So yah, me within the past two years making twice that a year has been a difference. There is no way in hell I would be able to help my family out like they have helped me out when I needed it either without twice what I used to have to live on.
