New title update will include tweaked ranks, a new banhammer.

A lot of confusion has been circling this leaked shot of new Halo 3 (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3144308) Achievements, but Bungie community manager Luke Smith has stepped in (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=15422) to clear things up on Bungie.net (via a story (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/09/08/bungie-leaked-achivements-legit-coming-by-months-end/) on Joystiq). The new Achievements will be coming, among other tweaks, with the Title Update 2 due out later this month. He shares a few of the Achievements, most of which rely on playing with the Legendary maps. Smith also hints that other Achievements are coming, but says that he doesn't want to comment on them "without proper context." The update will also include performance tweaks, a new format for playlist ratings, and separate military rankings for each playlist. There will also be new tools for the Bungie team to detect cheating with a new type of ban. Smith says that the "new spike on the banhammer will soon drip wet with the blood of jerks and the innards of sinners," which sounds gruesomely exciting to those sick of dealing with cheap tricks. There's also talk of the ongoing investigation into players who quit in the middle of matches; Smith promises that the team won't be banning people who do, but that they're keeping an eye on it. Let that be a lesson to you rage-quitters.
