Fare thee well, Troy Brown...

I'll make the case for it:

All time franchise leader in receptions
Played on 5 of 6 of the franchise's Super Bowl teams
Most Important Player on the 2001 Championship Team. Made huge plays not only on offense, but with timely special teams touchdowns during playoff run.
Saved the 2004 Championship season by switching to defensive back and replenshing an injury-devastated secondary. Actually did pretty well. Notched a few picks.
Great leader and team player
Called by Bill Parcells "the best pick he ever made"

Without a doubt, no question, Troy Brown's # should be retired by the Patriots. I'd say it was debateable before he manned up and played corner, but after he did that, successfully I might add, he secured a spot in every Patriots fans heart, and most certainly in their hall of fame.

No doubt.

Most definitely. He is truly Mr. Patriot and deserves to have his number retired. Too bad he wasn't up to playing a little QB this year. I hope they give him a job on the coaching staff this season (if he wants it). I think it would be a great morale boost, and a perfect way to revitalize this team.

I am as bad a homer as there is and even I couldn't say yes to that. He was incredibly valuable to a string of great teams (similar to the Bernie discussion a while back), but he was not a transcendent player.

He was a great contributor, but was probably never in the top 5 at his position any year that he played.

Definitely deserves to have his number retired by the Pats. HOF-worthy? Definitely no. But - he was a very good player during the Pats' heyday, played a big part in 3 championships, so... number retired = BIG YES.
