this is common practice. teams always reserve prime seats for VIP's. I am surprised they even have to pay for them

I just don't see the problem with this. It's good publicity all around for politicians to be at those games. I'd want the mayor at my playoff games if I were the owner so I could be sure to have good relations with the town. Likewise, I'd want to go to that game if I were the mayor so I could be sure to make the team feel welcome. Moreover, they do a hard job, why shouldn't they have perks?

agreed. all pro teams save seats for "whatif" scenarios. if the politicians did not buy them some team employee probably would be using them for free or almost free.

how is giving politicians tickets, "good publicity"? I'm pretty sure the game would be a sell out regardless. Politicians have the easiest jobs with access to power and loads of cash, which is why they fight so hard to get elected.
