The CW is prepping the series The Graysons, based on Batman's sidekick Robin before he takes on the caped superhero status.
According to Variety, Smallville (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TV2wq827krNw53) exec producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as Supernatural (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TVtAeztvHjHKxw) exec producer McG, are behind project, which has landed a put pilot commitment at the network.
Just as Smallville (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TV2wq827krNw53) focused on Clark Kent (http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEEc8GEJQ75XHN#) in the years before he became Superman, The Graysons will follow the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the iconic Robin identity and aligns himself with Batman.
The Graysons is seen as a potential replacement for Smallville (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TV2wq827krNw53) should that show end its run this season, which has been speculated, or it might also make a strong companion piece.
In the one-hour series, which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character.
Sounds like a bad idea to me. Smallville has seen better days and seasons. Why does everybody take a formula that worked once for a little while and try to redo it?
