The CW is prepping the series The Graysons, based on Batman's sidekick Robin before he takes on the caped superhero status.

According to Variety, Smallville (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TV2wq827krNw53) exec producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as Supernatural (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TVtAeztvHjHKxw) exec producer McG, are behind project, which has landed a put pilot commitment at the network.

Just as Smallville (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TV2wq827krNw53) focused on Clark Kent (http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEEc8GEJQ75XHN#) in the years before he became Superman, The Graysons will follow the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the iconic Robin identity and aligns himself with Batman.

The Graysons is seen as a potential replacement for Smallville (http://www.movieweb.com/tv/show/TV2wq827krNw53) should that show end its run this season, which has been speculated, or it might also make a strong companion piece.

In the one-hour series, which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. Smallville has seen better days and seasons. Why does everybody take a formula that worked once for a little while and try to redo it?

Yea I will probably watch some of it as well then become sick of the "villain of the week" scheme.

Isn't Robin universally hated by everyone? Why would anybody think this is a good idea?

Aaaannddd yet more people riding on the TDK wave. Hollywood's filled with a bunch of whores.

So we'll be following the adventures of a family of circus performers? Pass.

I'm surprised they didn't just make a show about Nightwing. Dick Grayson didn't get cool until he stopped being Robin, anyways.

I don't think it'll involve the circus. That's not hip enough for the CW. I imagine he'll be working at Hot Topic.

And that's another thing-- if this takes place in the years before he met Batman, wouldn't he be in kindergarten, or something? Will we be following his mischievous playground crime fighting days?

This idea blows.

Thankfully, The CW and Warner Bros Television have been forced to cancel plans for The Graysons, a Smallville-like look at Batman’s sidekick Dick Grayson in his pre-Robin days. Jeff Robinov changed his mind because “the concept doesn’t fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise”. A Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117995430.html?categoryid=14&cs=1) insider says that Christopher Nolan never signed off on the concept and was uncomfortable with the show being sold based off the film franchise. Either way, I think they dodged a huge bullet. As much as Smallville now sucks, at least Superman has powers (even if he can’t “fly with a cape”). I never understood what would be the appeal of a powerless pre-Robin television series.

I’m glad this idea for a show was scrapped but the people who thought it was a good idea are still out there.
I’m hoping some people were fired or at least demoted into the mail room.
