(10-01) 04:00 PDT Montpelier, Vt. -- The Vermont jam band Phish, which disbanded in 2004, announced Wednesday it's reuniting for three dates in March in Hampton, Va., and more after that.

Phish has booked dates for March 6-8 at the Hampton Coliseum, and other dates will be announced later, according to the band's Web site Wednesday.
Phish, which got its start at the University of Vermont in 1983, earned a Grateful Dead-style following in the 1980s and 1990s with its amorphous blend of rock, jazz and other styles. It was among the nation's top touring acts when it called it quits in 2004.
Rumors of a Phish reunion have swirled since May, when its four members appeared together to accept a lifetime achievement award at the Jammy Awards in New York. They didn't play that night.
Phish has played the Hampton Coliseum a dozen times and recorded "Hampton Comes Alive," a six-CD set, there in 1998.

Not sure how many of you care, but Phish is the reason I got into music in the first place, so I'm happy that they're playing again.

The only thing cool about Phish, besides Lawn Boy, is when they would play cover albums live. Not cover songs, but cover albums. That is awesome.

Trey is out of jail for driving under the influence of heavy drugs, and the bass player is done taking 14 year girls olds out in the woods to photograph them?

I saw Phish in Vermont back in 1989-1993. They played at my college. At the end of the show there was only like 200 people watching them. We went to Godard College every Halloween to watch them in front of maybe 1000 people. It it an art school so you can imagine how cool the costumes were. We would eat tons of acid/mushrooms and go to those crazy shows. Those where the good old Phish days...

I'm not a hippie. If you give them a chance, you'll find that they're extremely talented musicians. Trey Anastasio is/has been one of the greatest guitarists of the past 20 years. It's not for everyone, but to those who can appreciate a group that has real improvisational chemistry, this is a really cool reunion.

Oysterhead has some ok songs. They're Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool (of Primus), and Stuart Copeland (drummer from the police).

Phish fucking blows. The only good thing that comes out of this is the ability to find people who are excited, and add them to my list of people to hate.

Just because they don't play your kind of music doesn't mean they suck. What I found most exciting about Phish was their ability to make every night different. It's not like seeing Creed or Nickelback, or one of those other bands that get pushed on people. Phish made me a fan of music and I appreciate it. I don't listen to them so much nowadays, but I know that if not for them I never would've gotten into music in the first place, and that is fucking IMPORTANT to me. Also, basing who you hate on a band is fucking retarded.

I don't like DMB myself. But I think there are some solid musicians in there.

I know I'm biased, but if they hadn't written a good song I wouldn't be where I am today. They're not the most mainstream group, but they've definitely written a few great songs, even by douchepop standards.

You NEVER would have gotten into music? What were you, racist against musicians? Ever single human being I've ever known is into music in one way or another. And if someone wants to hate Phish, why should that matter to you? Does that decrease your enjoyment of the band? I hate Nickelback. Does that mean I have to apologize to Nickelback fans?

I saw Phish a few times back in the 90s -- it's that whole Grateful Dead culture that made the experience memorable, far more than just the music. I was amazed at how 40,000 people could congregate at a ski mountain or on some open field and set it up like it was a small city, with roads and everything, only to be completely disbanded in a few days. Pretty cool, actually.

Also, Sample in a Jar is one of my all-time favorite songs. Doubt I'll have the energy or ambition to seek them out for these shows, though. I'll bet my old roommates will, though. They've been following Moe ever since Phish broke up, but it's just not the same.

I was at this show and he was pretty incredible. This one is where this hot asian chick came out and played fiddle with them, but there are some great guitar solos.

I didn't say that there was anything wrong with hating Phish, I said that basing who you hate on which band they like is fucking retarded.

And of course everyone has some level of respect for music, but I'm batshit over music. I doubt I'd have the level of appreciation I have today (for ALL kinds of music) without the solid springboard in Phish.

Phish was fun until they hit it big. The problem with them is you gotta be on acid to get through those long ass jams. I went to 10-15 Dead shows in my life including both Highgate VT shows, and there is nothing better than the culture and the tent cities at those shows. Everyone is wasted and partying hard and the nitrous tanks are hissing all over the place. That would be the best part of a Phish show for me today, not the music.

right on. i saw those guys for almost 10 years with hauser and george just didn't cut it. i've seen them with herring a handful of times and he delivered every show.

the album earth to america with george is pretty good but live he was lackluster 90% of the show.

I always thought that it was the music that made them interesting, back when they weren't afraid to be strange (pre-Hoist). For me, it was the scene that sprouted up around them, particularly right after Jerry died, that turned me off. They sorta became the default "show to go to" for preppie assholes who happened to enjoy drugs, and their (said assholes) lack of attention to the music made Phish shows very difficult for me to enjoy. It was as though the scene just turned them into another retarded jam band.

They don't want radio play. They are a touring jam band. These days, radio play means that your band is mediocre, some sort of pop, and sold out. Also, that is just the live version of 2 songs merged. The original songs are shorter and still badass.
