Die Hard.
McTiernan was getting in his groove already having done Predator and would later do Hunt for Red October. Bruce Willis' smart alec schtick was still new and fresh and Alan Rickman was the perfect choice for the late 80's early 90's villain (greedy corporate type). Also, it was soooo quotable:
Harry Ellis: Hey babe, I negotiate million dollar deals for breakfast. I think I can handle this Eurotrash.
Special Agent Johnson: [on phone] Hello, this is Agent Johnson... No, the other one.
Hans: [to hostages] I wanted this to be professional. Efficient, adult, cooperative, not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way, so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life.

They showed the Princess Bride on tv last night and I hadn't seen it in a long time. I forgot just how much I enjoyed that movie. While I'm not sure it is my favorite movie of all time, it is definitely one of those movies that when I come across it on tv I simply must watch. I think it's one of those movies that has to be seen at least 4 or 5 times just to take in everything. The dialogue is some of my favorite in any movie.

I agree that you canonot pick one fav movie. there is comedy, sports, sc-fi, action/adventure, etc.
BUT having said that, if you told me I had to sit strapped in a chair for 8 hours a day fr 1 week and watch a single movie continuously on a loop, it just might have to be Raiders of the Lost Ark or Back to the Future

Hard to pick a favorite. I'd have to break it down:
Action/Adventure: Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Thriller: Se7en
Horror: Jaws
Comedy: South Park
Sci-Fi: Planet Of The Apes
Trilogy: Star Wars (original)
Series: Friday The 13th
Overall: I guess I pick Fight Club or Pink Floyd: The Wall
