Nintendo Working On 'Better' Wii Storage Solution than HDD
Also: New Zelda reconfirmed to be in the works, and Animal Crossing is so not casual.
By Kris Pigna (http://www.1up.com/do/my1Up?publicUserId=4547494), 09/08/2008
http://media.1up.com/media?id=3608500&type=lg Week after week, Nintendo releases new WiiWare and Virtual Console games, and the storage capacity in Wiis the world over continues to shrink. So how do they intend to solve this issue for Virtual Console gluttons? Not with a hard drive, apparently, as Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says the company is working on a solution that's even better. Fils-Aime, along with Shigeru Miyamoto, were recently interviewed by Club Nintendo, the official Nintendo magazine for Latin America. But thanks to a translation by GoNintendo (http://gonintendo.com/?p=55064) (via Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5046580/nintendo-is-working-on-something-better-than-wii-hdd)), we know some of the important bits that the two of them had to say. When asked about the lack of storage space on the Wii, Miyamoto apparently said that an announcement should be expected soon, as Nintendo is currently working on a solution. Fils-Aime added that it won't be a hard drive, as what they're working on will be a "better solution."
What could possibly be a better solution than a simple hard drive? Your guesses are as good as ours, but the obvious (and probably easiest) possibility might simply be to allow users to plug in any external hard drive they want through the Wii's USB ports.
A few more interesting tidbits from the interview: When asked about incorporating the Wii MotionPlus remote add-on in a future Zelda (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150628) game, Miyamoto didn't comment specifically about the use of the add-on, but did reconfirm that new Zelda and Pikmin (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=2007361) titles are currently in development. Miyamoto also said not to expect any more Wii peripherals, as Nintendo feels they've released enough already.
Fils-Aime, meanwhile, said he doesn't consider Animal Crossing: City Folk (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3168402) to be a casual game, and that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3168535) for the DS is being made as a game for the hardcore audience. And when asked about another DS redesign, Fils-Aime said they only consider console redesigns when sales go down, not when they continue to stay up.
So at this pace (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169357), what, that means in like another 10 years?

The recent Rockefeller Center launch party in for Wii Music (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150802) didn't attract the large crowd we usually see at Nintendo events. 1UP user Anthony Parisi attended the party and blogged (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8917243&publicUserId=4547365) on the low turnout, complete with pictures. The difference between it and the midnight launch for Super Mario Galaxy (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3150586) was clear (pictured above). When Nintendo announced the music pantomime game at E3 2008 (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3168733), many core gamers felt it lacked depth despite assurances (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3170410) and the frequent invoking of Shigeru Miyamoto's name. Our own preview (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3170617&p=44) and positive review (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3170709&p=44) suggested that it's good casual-focused fun, but the launch bust doesn't bode well. Maybe more casual gamers -- who are less likely to attend a launch party -- will snatch it up as they have other titles like Wii Play (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3153683). Otherwise, we may be getting our first glimpse at a Wii game that didn't catch the core or casual markets.

Yeah, I forgot I even had one until it started glowing blue the other night. I then unplugged it.

My wife wanted a Wii Fit. So I have stayed up until 3 am to order one for her off Amazon. And now that I have bought it I am off to bed. Also if anyone cares they have Wii's on sale until they are gone.

I bought my girlfriend Animal Crossing: City Folk for Christmas. Time to knock the dust off that pussy (the Wii, that is).

I have been looking for a game that would give me an excuse to dust of my now completely unused Wii, and was wondering if anyone has played COD: World at War yet and could give a review.

I bought my girlfriend a Wii Fit today, had Amazon.com text me when they were in stock. $90 with free shipping. She also want Animal Crossing: City Folk, which I might also get her, I don't know.

Buying ones girlfriend a workout/weight loss implement is might mighty dangerous. I assume she asked for it. Thats not a road I would ever walk.

It's a game, she's been wanting one for awhile. I don't think she'll think I'm implying that she needs to lose weight, which she doesn't. If she really got pissy about that, I'd probably dump her. I don't need that immature shit.

On Wednesday afternoon both MTV Multiplayer (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/12/03/nintendo-plays-a-game-for-me-includes-slur/) and Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5101425/nintendo-sends-game-to-journos-with-racial-epithet-surprise) posted stories detailing how they had received copies of Animal Crossing: Wild World (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=2019489) for the DS from Nintendo. Because these carts were meant to show off the character importing feature of Animal Crossing: City Folk (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3168402) for the Wii, the DS carts were already opened and had saved games featuring a ton of money and bonuses. Both Multiplayer and Kotaku discovered one unexpected twist, though: a strong racial slur repeated during conversations with in-game character Baabara. We contacted Nintendo regarding these reports and received the following official response:
"Previously played copies of the 2005 DS game Animal Crossing: Wild World were sent to 14 members of the media to demonstrate the ability of players to transfer items to the new Animal Crossing: City Folk for Wii. We regret that an offensive phrase was included without our knowledge via a wireless function that allows user-generated catchphrases to spread virally from one game to the next. This version is limited to 14 copies created for media review purposes only and is not available at retailers. We sincerely apologize for the incident and are working with media who received the game cards to return them to Nintendo immediately." This is a surprising slip-up from the family-friendly company with what is perhaps their most family-friendly game, but at least they admitted to their mistake immediately. 1UP also received a copy of the DS cartridge and has been requested to return it, as stated in their response.

The latest incarnation of the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo DSi, will be released in the U.S. on April 5 and priced at US$169.99. It is launching in black and new color blue. The DSi, which has been on sale in Japan since November 2008, has only been available in black and white. The DSi features two 0.3 megapixel cameras, larger screens, a new SD card slot and better speakers. It does not have a Game Boy Advance cartridge slot like the DS or DS Lite.

I dropped by my mothers house on the way to the batting cages tonight. She is retiring to a few acres in Va this summer so she is going through all of the storage in her basement and shed. Well she had a big box of my stuff to take home.
I get home and find my SNES with 25 games and my N64 with over a dozen games. So for the last hour or so I have been enjoying some Chrono Trigger. Beat it again in 20 minutes.

I just bought the wii and the wii fit yesterday! I finally have a wii! Anyhow, I was wondering if you guys can help me find good deals on video games. Where do you buy your games? I looked on eBay, but the games aren't that much cheaper. I also looked on Craigslist, but they don't always have the games I want. Also, is the Wii motion plus worth it? The only game that I bought so far is the grand slam tennis. I'm thinking of getting Mario Galaxy. What other games should I get?
