MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A Minneapolis radio station said Friday it would air public service announcements on HIV/AIDS after a pair of talk hosts accused Magic Johnson of faking AIDS.
KTLK's Chris Baker and Langdon Perry made the remarks during Baker's conservative talk show on Wednesday. After Johnson condemned the statements, the station said on Friday it regretted "some off-hand remarks" by the pair.
According to a partial transcript and audio clip posted on a media watchdog site, mediamatters.org, the remarks came after a caller asserted that health care isn't a basic right. Perry responded by asking about treatable diseases that a person can live with for a long time "if you just get some basic drugs."
Baker responded, "Like Magic Johnson?"
Perry replied, "Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS."
Baker said, "You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?"
Perry replied, "I'm convinced that Magic faked AIDS."
"Me too," Baker said.
Johnson issued a statement Thursday saying he was "outraged that Chris Baker and Langdon Perry would minimize such a serious and deadly issue."
"Millions are dying from HIV/AIDS, and the fact that they would make jokes about my status is unbelievable," Johnson said. "Chris, Langdon and KTLK should use their power in a more positive light by encouraging people to get tested for this disease instead of making up such ridiculous lies."
Johnson was diagnosed with HIV in 1991 and then retired from the NBA at 32.
KTLK's statement said it recognized the seriousness of AIDS and the "great work" Johnson has done to call attention to the disease.
"We regret that some off-hand remarks by commentators on KTLK did not reflect that," the statement said. "To better inform our listeners and employees, KTLK will be airing HIV/AIDS awareness public service announcements, and will be reaching out to Mr. Johnson to get his thoughts on education efforts."
A spokeswoman for Magic Johnson Enterprises didn't immediately return a call for comment on Friday.

I was talking about the DJs insinuating Johnson faking his HIV. That's a ridiculous accusation, and is a more retarded conspiracy theory than 9/11 being an 'inside job'.
I don't really see how the guy's seeking sympathy, either. He's done a shitload with the Magic Johnson Foundation, and educating the youngins.

I'm not really angry about it, but I think he should come to the public with reasons as to why he has remained healthy and physically fit 16 years after he first announced he'd contracted HIV, never showing a symptom, especially while millions of others are dying from AIDS in a fraction of the time. I don't think it's that much of a reach to suggest that the government needed a poster-boy, handpicked Magic, and he agreed. And that by-and-large, that was the turning point where Americans accepted that anyone could get HIV, that it wasn't a "gay" disease, and that people should educate themselves about it.

How do you know he's never shown a symptom? Just because he doesnt hold a press conference doesnt mean the disease hasnt affected him. But I've wondered the same thing too. I meant literally not showing a symptom, not that he's never had one. I've always thought that if he was going to go public with it in the first place, at least some follow-up information would have come out it one way or another. And a show that follows him for a day would be great TV, too.

A) Hes not the only person to have HIV for a long time and never develop AIDs, he just so happens to be one of the more high profile cases
B) People in general are living longer with HIV. Its due to advances in medicine. Unless you're poor and can't afford the meds its not outlandish that you'd live more than a decade with the disease.
C) What dude, knee deep in pussy, is going to fake having HIV?
Genius
10-11-2008, 09:46 AM
I can accept those lines of reasoning. Maybe I'm just being really selfish, but I'd like to hear from him from time to time, I think he should keep the public updated. Because if he can live with HIV, then theoretically anyone can. And when you're this high profile, sometimes the only way to put a stop to "ridiculous" claims like these is to keep the public updated.

It is not uncommon to see people with HIV that is untreated not develope any AIDS related systems. In fact, you would be hard pressed to see any physical signs that they had such a insideous desease.
Each sufferer has a slightly different med cocktail to take because the virus attacks their immune systems different. The same strain could kill someone in six months or not effect someone for decades.
When you look at Magic, he was in good shape and probably had a strong immune system to begin with. Couple that with his ability to get his hands on the latest and best meds he could go for decades as the perfect picture of health.

Find me a real study from a medical journal that is not conducted out of a minivan that either shows or does not show that people who contracted HIV live _____ number of years on average with a healthy diet and work out routine, and then we can talk.
Quite frankly, I have no idea what the average life expectancy for people with HIV who actually take care of themselves is, so I have no idea if this is normal these days or not. Sorry if I don't buy into all the internet hyperbole, but I prefer to have facts to bullshit...I'm kind of picky that way.
If anyone can shed light on this, one way or the other, it would be appreciated.

Baker and Langdon are such jagoffs. I remember one show not too long ago the dumbshits were claiming people who live in tornadic areas are way safer than people who live in hurricane areas, and that people who live in hurricane stricken areas should just up and move.
Yea, like everyone can afford doing shit like that.
As for this Aids thing, Im hoping one of Baker and Langdons warehouse district prostitutes infects them with aids someday, or they come out of the closet together.

OK....These may not be from the medical journal....but they are summing up what is in the medical journal and written in not too accessible language and summing it up in plain English.
http://www.terradaily.com/reports/HIV_Life_Expectancy_Now_Normal_999.html
http://www.medpagetoday.com/HIVAIDS/HIVAIDS/tb/9930
http://www.webmd.com/hiv-aids/news/20080724/combo_therapy_boosts_hiv_life_expectancy
OK...If you actually read the articles above....they seem to contradict one another. With the first two saying that HIV life expectancy is normal with treatment and the third saying it has increased from 36-nearly 50 years (which is good, but not normal life expectancy). But the first two are stating that for a patient who catches the infection early, gets on the drugs right away, and religiously stays on them for life, life expectancy is near normal. The study in the last one is for anyone (doesn't have all those if's). So it also includes those who weren't caught right away, didn't necessarily get the drugs right away, Possibly at some point stopped taking the drugs (depression, or other reasons). These seriously bring down the overall numbers.
Magic was diagnosed in 1991. At that time the HIV cocktails were not yet available, but AZT (now one of the drugs in the "cocktail") was. AZT was effective at keeping HIV infection from becoming AIDS, but the infection could mutate, rendering the AZT ineffective. Also, in 1991, AZT was not available to all, and was very expensive, as this article from 1991 about Magic shows.
http://www.aegis.com/news/mh/1991/MH911112.html
So initially being rich helped Magic to keep his HIV from developing into AIDS. But in 1995 the Cocktail approach was approved and came into common use in 1996. It's probably possible that Magic had access to this sort of therapy even earlier. And it is these drugs that have kept him healthy, and, if he takes care of himself and takes his medicine may end up with an average life span...his weight and size may be bigger factors limiting his lifespan.
And since 1996, these drugs have become cheaper and thus readily available, even to the poor, in industrialized countries. And recently the United States and other countries have been spearheading an effort to make these drugs readily available in less developed parts of the world, especially in Affrica. Life expectancy is still lower for those with HIV, primarily because people often don't get tested, don't take the drugs, and don't deal with the insurance/medicare system to get the drugs they need (because, while accessible, it is definitely more of a pain in the ass to get the drugs if you are poor than if you are Magic).
So, sorry guys....no amazing conspiracy here.
Simply....Magic got diagnosed at the right time, and was rich initially, and since, the drugs have gotten better and more available.

Why would Magic lie and cut off his never ending supply of pussy?
Because it would be the only way to resist his urges and keep his wife. Maybe, he actually loved her, but sexy women kept falling on his dick.
I am sure that if he goes around saying he has AIDS, even the sluts don't trip and fall on his cock very often...
