I'm looking for a download manager similar to rapidshare manager, where you just copy and paste tons of rapid links in. Rapidshare manager doesn't work on my computer though.
Sugggestions?

I use rapidfire, just select the links and right click and it will automatically download the files using the firefox download manager. you can even start and stop the downloads.

I guess that this is a software question. I KNOW that some virus totally fucked up my system settings. How do I restore them to the way they were? Now I can't install anything with out getting a "invalid win32" message. I get re-routed to random ad sites.
I'm using XP and so forth.

Before you do a format and reinstall you can try to do a system restore and then try to boot into an AV program to do a sweep prior to the OS loading. (Or try to do the sweep in safe mode if that is the only way your AV software will work.)
Warden
09-01-2008, 11:05 PM
I've swept in safe mode twice and that hasn't turned up anything. The system restore option only goes back to when I first started having huge problems. Also, Norton used to scan over 2 million files on a full system scan. Now it only scans 55K and some change.
I'd do a reformat and reinstall but I don't have my windows XP disc anymore.
Warden
09-02-2008, 02:33 AM
This is so fucked. I can't open a single web page that offers online virus scans. ANY file I download only downloads 61k before stopping. Anything I try and install fucks up with the "whateverwhatever is not a valid win32 program" or what ever.
Is there anything I can do short of re-formating or taking it to a place to have them fix it up? I can't think of a single place to get another XP disc anymore and I can't afford Vista.
GreyFox1382
09-02-2008, 03:40 PM
if its that bad, you really should think about re-formatting. If its a store bought pc then you might have a factory restore, then you won't need a disc but you will lose your data. If you go that route then you'll wanna pull your drive out, and put it in an external case, or get something like:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119244
http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/productimage/12-119-244-05.jpg
If its a dell, then PM me and I can hook you up with a legit restore disk, I've got one lying around.
Warden

Gateway. I know I have my restore disc around here some place but fuck me if I can't find it. Friend of mine suggested I swing by Frys, tell them I am building a PC and ask if they could hook me up with a copy of XP, I was thinking about trying that.
I may just dig around some more and hope I stumble upon it.

Any suggestions?

I don't know why you would think that delete would empty your recycle bin because that's not how it is done in XP either. Anyways, go to Control Panel then Personalization and on the left side of the screen, select "Change Desktop Icons" and check the Recycle Bin.

I think this is a software question, as I need software to do this I think. Is there a way or a program that can be used to record streaming .flv video from a website? I've tried all the Firefox add-ons and programs such as FLV Recorder, Orbit, Replay media Catcher and Webcam Video Capture but none work. They don't recognize anything to record or record a video.swf file. Does anybody have an aswer to this, I would appreciate it.

I use a combo of the programs mentioned with no problems. The firefox add on works the best for me, but won't pick up on some websites so I use additional software such as FLV Recorder. It truly sounds like you are doing something wrong on your end. Give me a site for example that you can't rip from and I'll see if it works for me.

So I'm on this website for work and it gives me the option of loading a pdf of a document. The link usually opens up a little window in the middle of my screen and then my pop-up blocker is supposed to kick in and then I click on the little bar at the top to allow pop-ups and then the PDF downloads. Except, as soon as the window stops loading it disappears. I tried turning off my pop-up blocker and allowing cookies but that shit doesnt work. The window still disappears.

it's an image file, .bin to be exact. you have to mount it with daemon tool, poweriso, etc. there's an instruction file on the image that gives good directions. follow it and it'll work fine.
so that's great. i've never used daemon before but fuck, i'm smart i'll figure it out. i dl'd that shit and mounted the only .bin file in the .rar and got dick. 3 pics popped up, however, they were all just squares of solid colors. two green and one gray. anyone know what i'm doing incorrectly?

Any suggestions on enterprise level spyware/anti-virus software. The company I work for is using an old version of Trend Micro that only has anti-virus support. We don't need firewall protection since we have a separate firewall running, but we do need protection against viruses, spyware, and malware. I was looking at Symantec Endpoint Protection and its got some neat features like being able to restrict what people can put on flash drives and cds/dvds. It also seems to be the highest rated from the tech magazines as far as detecting AND cleaning, but reviews from people that have bought it say it sucks. Any suggestions?

I typically use MagicISO, but when you click the .BIN file, do you see a bunch of files that appear instantly? typically what I do is extract all those files to a folder and once that's done, then I can easily install the program. probably not the biggest help, but if you're not seeing files when you click the .BIN file using PowerISO/Daemon Tools/whatever, then something's wrong.

I've had the best experience using a hybrid of Alcohol 120% and Power ISO. Those two open up and run everything, and I found that Alcohol's Virtual drive causes less problems than Daemon Tools, at least for my computers.

My puter went in auto-destruct mode yesterday, I had to to reformate it or whatever by rebooting it with the application & support disc, meaning that I lost pretty much everything, it just went back to factory setting. All has to be reinstalled is what I gather so far, and that includes pretty much every drivers...
I did just that, for the most part, but I have a big problem with video. I mostly use WMP, sound is good but the image is super weird and most annoyingly, running strangely. In slow-mo would be the best way to describe it, I guess. Windows DVD maker doesn't want to work anymore, neither, missing something that I don't have a clue about.
Any ideas, pretty please???

BTW, I switch PC, so it's not the same BS as previously.
Do you have the latest WMP 11? I had something similar with my Nvidia Video Card. I installed the most recent driver and it was shit. So i got an older version, one closest to when i bought it and it worked fine with "older" driver. I guess it did not like the newest one. Good luck

If you really want to try and get access to your neighbor's wireless signal without permission you should look at Linux. There is a live distro called Backtrack. I would not recommend doing this since it is illegal. I on the other hand deal with computers, networks, and security on a daily basis so I tried this on my own wireless. Lets just say it requires a lot of time and a lot of traffic from the victim network. If they aren't downloading movies and such from torrent sites then you might as well just give up.

Try to enter one of the following specific IP addresses (without quotation marks) in the updater settings:

I had postgreSQL downloaded, but deleted it.
Now, I'm trying to reinstall it, and when I do it comes to a step in the installation process that says:
Please provide a password for the database superuser and service account (postgres). If the service account already exists in Windows, you must enter the current password for the account.
Which means it already exists. I just have no idea how, where, or why.

Yeah but they're shit. I sent an email to someone a couple days ago trying to figure this out.
I'm seriously thinking about taking this to like a computer geek to figure this out, something I've never even considered doing.
That may be the first time bringing something to me wasn't considered "bringing it to a computer geek".
if the only issue is it detecting old file or something, maybe you could try cleaning up your HDD + registry? CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) + Eusing Free Reg Cleaner (http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm) + Free Registry Defragger (http://www.registry-clean.net/free-registry-defrag.htm)
Just keep in mind, I almost guarantee that won't work, especially considering my lack of familiarity with the program.

I would suggest trying another music player first probably. Not sure how intertwined MediaMonkey is. .I know that Winamp was getting pretty deep into the OS awhile back.
My FIRST inclination, and where I'm trying to start is obviously something to do w/ drivers. Since it works on your headset being USB, those are running their own drivers and thus aren't utilizing your onboard soundcard at all. They have their own built-in sound processor.
But, of course, starting general to avoid jumping to conclusions as I see happening here so often.
I doubt that the speakers you're using will matter at all.
*Edit* not bad headphones. Similar to what I'm using. I believe that is the follow-up to what I have. I don't see mine at Best Buy anymore and those seem to have taken their place. Mine are thus far my favorite headphones to date. Now, if I could just find a relatively affordable wireless headset w/ mic solution. (Stereo, not single-ear)

Another thought, I'm assuming that WMP plays music fine? (and that you're trying more than just one particular file?) And that other sounds on your computer appear to be working, either in other programs, etc.?

I figured as much, I was just hoping somebody happened to know something I didn't so I didn't have to jump through all the same old hoops I do at work.

Sounds good. I wish you luck. Maybe first thing I'd look at just cuz it's really simple would be to check your motherboard manufacturer's website for driver updates for the soundcard? (or even just the same version if you can re-install it).
As with any messing of drivers I'd recommend setting a rollback point first.

I'm having trouble burning DVDs. Before I reformatted, I was able to burn every DVD I ever tried. In the past week, I couldn't burn 21, Saw IV, and Hancock. The first two came from Netflix and Hancock came from Redbox. Like I said, I never had a problem burning DVDs from any source before, whether it be a legit bought DVD or a rental from Netflix/Blockbuster/Hollywood Video/Redbox till I reformatted. I have DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, and Nero 8. I don't think it's my drives because I also currently have Demitri Martin's Person from Netflix and that ripped perfectly fine. My problem isn't with the actual burning, it's the shrinking/reading part. When I start an of those programs, after it gets through the menus, it gets held up. When it goes to read the movie, I get a message like this:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "E:\"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
I am out of ideas. I tried burning on the fly and ripping first. Well it doesn't even get to the shrinkng part. This is happening during the "Open Disk" or "Analyzing" phase.
Suggestions?

But these are the same drives that you've been able to use before eh? I use DVD Fab HD Decrypter (same as what I'm sure you're using. . .it's what they call it now) and DVD shrink. . . has been able to work with everything I've ever put at it.
If these are drives you've been able to use in the past. . .odd that it'd happen right after a reformat tho. (although possible)
You can WATCH the movies through here tho? And haven't changed any physical connections inside your computer?

When you did your re-install after your format did you run any firmware updates to the dvd drive? If not you may want to check and see if any updates are available.

Definitely a good point. However, if it's firmware wouldn't it remain updated regardless of a reinstall? Either way, if wasn't updated before then new updates for Windows or whatever that were applied upon reinstall may have caused issues.
Good thought Syn.

Where did your mom get the computer from? Usually Windows XP requires that you activate it after you put the serial number in it. If it's a genuine (legal) serial number, go ahead and activate it.
If it isn't, see if Windows will let you boot into Safe Mode with Networking (tap F6 or F8 right before Windows loads up to get the list of options) and *ahem* acquire a device to get rid of the activation.

Hey, I have a question that kind of relates to forums... or it may not.
I'm trying to set up a system where customers can pay via PayPal, and then they can automatically receive the documents that they've paid for. Right now I have it where I e-mail it back to them once I've received payment, but this process gets tedious to keep track of as the responses are increasing.
My idea was to make it similar to the old payment system here. I would transform the documents into threads where people can read them, and then have a download link at the bottom to download them. Most of the people I deal with aren't really computer savvy... so I doubt they'd get into Filesharing of the documents since its just some basic training service I'm operating, but I need a more efficient delivery method.
Would you suggest setting up a basic forum with a paid-access system (and if so, how do I go about setting it up? How much are the costs?). If not, could you think of a better method to deliver these documents after payment is received automatically? If there was a way to have it so they could only view it online without the ability to copy and print the information (or make it really hard), that would be great too, but not that necessary.

Does anyone have experience in animating from Rhinoceros using Bongo? I have been trying to render a flyby this last week, but have run into major crashing issues. Here are some specifics:
My machine:
Processor: Core 2 Quad @ 2.44GHz
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 @ 800 MHz
GPU: nVidia Quadro FX570 w/256 MB
OS: XP Pro
The Rhino File:
75 MB (mostly basic geometries)
The animation specs:
Length: 80 seconds
Resolution: 852x480 (basic 16:9)
Codec: Mpeg1 @ 4200 min VBR
Any input would be great. I am getting the same crash report but at various places each time. I was able to get 89% of the way through the other day, then rendered the final 11% and stitched the videos together with Premier, but I would like to not have to do this each time.
Thanks for any help,
Cheers

Same thing on Vista. Start/Control Panel (click on classic view)/Mouse (properties box opens)/Drive Settings/ Then highlight "Synaptics Touchpad" and click on disable.
Unless you have an Acer. The Acer's touchpad driver can't be disabled within Control Panel on Vista, but you should be able to disable the touchpad on any recent-model Acer laptop by pressing and holding 'Fn' (lower-left of keyboard) and 'F7'.
