I use rapidfire, you can search for it as its a firefox addon. That combined with greasemonkey (which shows which file links are live and which are dead) makes downloading large sets of links easy.

just highlight the link. or sometimes you can "edit" the quote and grab the link that way. RSFind! is another addon that pulls all the link on the current page you're on.

I get this problem when I dl torrents on an external harddrive, and it happens when I unplug the external and the torrent still tries to save it on it.

I guess this mostly fits in this thread. Cox has shut off my internet on two separate occasions within the past two or three months for torrenting and file sharing. The first time was when my roommate was downloading Mercenaries 2 via torrent and the second time was when I was downloading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas via torrent.

Both times we called cox and they listed specifically the files we were downloading and we told them it wasn't us and they turned our internet back on, but this past time they warned us if it happens again they'll cancel our account and black list the person who owns the account (my room mate)

I just want to know a couple things. First of all, Cox has a monopoly in my city (gainesville, fl) so everyone has Cox, yet none of my friends who torrent constantly have ever had a problem like this. Why us?

Secondly, what is safe to download? Can I still use rapidshare to get music and movies? What about programs like Limewire?

actually, I do have some questions about the file sharing...

being really a noob on this, I do most of my gorilla time at work, so I don't really DL all this stuff. BUT...I want to download a hell of alot of shit I see on here for my home.

what are the steps? Do I have to purchase something? I just click the link and it downloads? Is there a big Virus threat? (I am assuming that most of the people posting in here won't do it on purpose since we know who they are...) Legal crap?

PeerGuardian and Protowall do work pretty well for torrents. They block known IPs from companies known to track. Also, there are other IP filters like the one below. It works for Utorrent, may or may not work for programs. Read the nfo file for instructions.

I prefer torrents over everything, but if you want SAFEST, go with rapidshare/megaupload/blah blah blah. Any and all legal issues simply lead to the site deleting the file from their servers. Big whoop. Easiest way to download them IMO is with USDownloader, but you should be able to figure out how to download manually. If you can't download USDownloader... Then I'm not going to waste my time.

http://rapidshare.com/files/127814414/USDownloader135.zip

Run it, copy + paste links into it (or tell it to watch your clipboard for links) and it should automatically go through and download for you. Any and all downloads requiring user interaction (CAPTCHA's) should popup in a little prompt window, which is annoying, but a lot less annoying than manually going through every single link. Rapidshare is the easiest because of it's lack of CAPTCHA's.

I don't think it would. They are analyzing his traffic it seems, not who he's connecting to. If your ISP doesn't have part of the service agreement that includes lack of activity monitoring or something, I would not do anything sketchy.

I would say that if you can't get another ISP or a different service through Cox that keeps them out of your business... Give up or move.

I haven't the slightest bit of an idea. I assume that it would be no different than downloading with torrents in terms of what information they could collect... But, there is one potentially important fact that if your traffic isn't explosively active, I would assume they wouldn't get suspicious. So maybe free use of rapidshare and such would just be interpreted as heavy internet usage rather than heavy downloading... Which I understand isn't exactly literally much different, but you get the idea.

I'm not positive about this, but if they knew exactly what you were downloading, that makes me think that it wasn't the ISP. There are companies that are contracted out by software/film/music industry companies. They actually download files that are created by the company that hired them and since anyone can see the IP address of who is uploading, this is how they obtain yours. They then report the IP address to the ISP who then suspends your account.

Same thing happened to two friends of mine. One was downloading Norton AV and the ISP, who coincidentally was Cox also, shut his connection down. When he called, they told him that they knew he was downloading Norton and that they had been alerted by an outside company. They asked him if he used an non password protected wireless router (he didn't) but he said he did. They assumed someone else was leeching off his account. They re-activated his account, he started using Protowall and never had any issues again. Another was getting a movie and his ISP was Comcast. He was temporarily shut down, he started using PeerGuardian and never had any issues after that either.

PG/PW aren't fail safes though. The blocklists only contain the IP addresses they know of so if it's a new IP address, you may not be protected until the list is updated.

so i got a new computer in sept. along w/ that i decided to change shit up when i started installing new shit. i went w/ a new program to split and join my files. today i extracted the 5 zipped up files for the cs4 i dl'd. weird thing is, the program gave me a mesage for each one saying they files already existed in the folder from the first file i had extracted. it then asked me if i wanted to replace, replace all, etc... i've never had this problem before. is this a fucked up file i downloaded or is my program fucking up while attempting to join the files? the fuck@?!

12-06-2008, 05:49 PM
what format are the files you're trying to join/extract?

mongo
12-06-2008, 05:50 PM
well, it's cs4, so they are all .rar files until extraction. it's not like the don't extract, cause they do, but all of the first 5 .rar files seem to be exactly the same according to my program.

got this email today

Hello 7361317, Your RapidShare account is being terminated due to violating the terms of service. Illegal downloads are being hosted on our servers, voiding our terms of service. We have detected and deleted these files, and are now in the process of terminating accounts that have downloaded these files. This is to ensure that more illegal content does not appear on our servers. We do not support or encourage the usage of illegal programs, music, or other media. The terminated account will appear on Rapidshare servers for 2-3 days but you will not be granted access to it. The login data for the terminated account is: ============================== Login: 7361317 Password: *REMOVED BY JB* ============================== * Please do not respond to this message as it is a automated service. Just curious, was everything on your account rar'd, or did you host any full movie downloads. Because I thought that is why it was legal. You aren't downloading say a whole movie, just a rar'd file. You would need all parts to make it a movie. But with a membership I know you can upload files like up to 2 gigs. In this case I can see their point, but if you had all split archived files, I think then everyone is fucked.

Found this on another forum when I googled it:

There have been a few reports of people receiving the same email. They have emailed RapidShare and have gotten their account back. It turned out that the account was hacked.
Just email RapidShare with the email you got sent, and see what they say.
Edit: Seems like a lot of people have been phished. Do this to get your account back.

It is NOT rapidshare's fault.
You have been pished. Most likely the hacker changed your password.

The sender of the email you've received is probably http://webmaster@rapidshare.com (http://webmaster@rapidshare.com/)
However, if the real Rapidshare would have sent this email the sender would be http://support@rapidshare.com (http://support@rapidshare.com/)

Happened to me too about 2 months ago.
Some phishing scams now involve sending emails to the hacked user in an attempt to put them off contacting rapidshare and having the account reinstated.

Nevertheless, send an email to http://support@rapidshare.com (http://support@rapidshare.com/) and explain your situation.
In the next few days you will recieve a reply with new log on details, and your account is restored.

It is a pain, but it's not all lost.

Anyone else get a phone call from Comcast lately about hogging bandwidth? Apparently there's a new rule stating that you can't go over 250GB bandwidth per month (rule started in October). I need a good program for my Rapidshare account. RapidUploader isn't working for me. I throw shit in there and it says I'm uploading at like 1.5 mb/s for a second or two and then stops. I can't do anything while it's open. I am forced to exit out of it and reset my router to get back online. Rapidshare Manager won't install for me. Not sure why. Is there some 3rd party program I can use or someone suggest why the 2 above aren't working?

Supposedly comcast has been throttling and shitcanning people for years for excessive downloads. Remember reading about it here.

Those guys are all on top of that and would have whatever info you need. My optimum online is just permanently throttled so when I do their speed test they claim I have dialup and I should order their service that I already pay for. I need to call those fuckers.

Comcast Labels Innocent Customer a Movie Pirate

Comcast doesn’t really have a good reputation in the BitTorrent community and it’s getting worse by the day. They now have plans to cooperate with the RIAA and disconnect alleged copyright infringers. A worrisome development, especially since they have a tendency to accuse innocent customers.

Hello all:

I have a dedicated PC I use at home for torrents and HTPC use. Is there a tool or program that I can install on that PC that will email me at work updates on my torrent downloads? Basically, email me when a torrent is done or even status/progress?

Better yet... how about all of that and general system status, etc.

Thanks

First of all... great idea!

I just downloaded RoboTask 3.2.1 and was able to set up a process that does what you're looking for.
1. Create the following folders ( C:\ is for reference only put them anywhere you like)
Monitor
Completed
File_list
Old_file_list

2. In your torrent client there should be an option to move completed downloads (in Bittorrent it's under Options>Preferences>Directories... Set the Monitor folder as the location in which to move completed files.

3. After installing RoboTask, Goto Task>New
Right click and add the following 4 tasks under the Actions Tab.

A.) Under "Files and Folders" double click "Search for Files"
Type C:\Monitor\*.*
at the bottom of the windows it says "Save File list to:"
Type c:\File_list\Filename.txt

This searches the Monitor Folder and copies the file names in the folder to a text file which we willbe emailing.

B.) Under "File and Folders", Double Click "Copy/Move Files"
Type C:\Monitor\*.*

Under "Destination Folder:"
Type C:\Completed

Check the box marked "Move"

This Moves the completed file so you don't receive duplicate emails

C.) Under "Internet" Double Click "Send Email"
Fill with your email credentials and SMTP Server info, and under "Attachments"
Type C:\File_list\filename.txt

This will email you the txt file (you created in step A.)with the names of the files it just moved

D.) Under "File and Folders", Double Click "Copy/Move Files"
Type C:\File_list\Filename.txt

Under "Destination Folder:"
Type C:\Old_file_list

Check the box marked "Move"

This moves the .txt file so you don't receive duplicates.

4. Finally Under the "Triggering Events" Tab
Add one task
Under "Files and Folders" double click "File Monitor"
Click the plus and browse to C:\Monitor

make sure to check the boxes labeled
"Watch for new files"
"Monitor Files"
"Monitor Folders"

and set the poll interval if you want default is 60 secs.

that should do it

Yesterday i tried to download torrent files with limewire. They start quite good, good speed, etc. but after a minute or something they reached 0kbs and they stay there forever. i close limewire and open it again and they start downloading again but then the same happens.

Why is this? is some firewall problem, some preferences problem with limewire?

There's countless tutorials online on how to setup Limewire--but in a nutshell it sounds like your modem and/or router needs the proper ports forwarded to the machine running Limewire.

Try these:

you can either burn them onto a CD/DVD (with Nero, it's under "Image, Project, Copy" then "Disc Image or Saved Project") or you can get something like Daemon Tools and mount it on a Virtual Drive to play/install it from wherever it is now.

For more torrent trackers, you can sift through here (http://anonym.to/?http://www.torrentking.org/), but just be careful.

For a program that some worry is becoming troublesome, I find little need to worry... Torrentfreak once had an article (can't seem to find it) about how utorrent, though now owned by bittorrent itself, does nothing outside of what you'd expect it to. No reporting activites or anything of the sort (as you may have expected with an ally of anti-piracy corporations)... Anyways, I have always loved uTorrent (http://anonym.to/?http://utorrent.com/). However, if you actually like Vuze (I personally can't stand it's new bulky GUI and features), you aren't alone (http://anonym.to/?http://torrentfreak.com/whats-the-best-bittorrent-client-090517/).

Though I will ALWAYS recommend using PeerGuardian2 (http://anonym.to/?http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/) with some quality IP ranges (http://anonym.to/?http://iblocklist.com/lists.php) for it to block.

Good luck.

thanks for all that. thats one of the reason i don't want to use vuze (at least not all the time) is because if i have it running, it really lags everything else down. it running like twice as much as firefox when ill be doing tons of stuff online. usally gotta shut down a lot of other stuff if im trying to do both.. thanks again.

No idea, but gizmo central (http://arainia.com/software/gizmo/) has a Drive emulator in it, and, as far as I can tell, it is 32/64 bit compatible... Not sure if that helps.
